Project Life: Excitement and Fear {aka I'm a newbie}

Its the curse of Pinterest. All these creative projects, and so little time and patience {and money} to do them! There was one that caught my eye: Project Life by Becky Higgins. Its sort of like Scrapbooking for Dummies and I can't wait to get started!

Well, maybe I can wait.

This is honestly going to be so much fun working on this! With our new daughter arriving soon and Little Girl, I'd love to document something special with them growing up as sisters. Even though I've got a half-sister, we're 10 years apart and we never really grew-up together. I've always had my two younger brothers around me. This is going to be a challenge, but I can't wait to see how they interact. When I saw on Pinterest this very fun and possibly easy way to scrapbook, I knew it was a great choice to record my daughters antics.

My only problem is getting started. You see, I have this fear of doing the wrong thing. I know most people do too, but mine is quite strange. Picking out paint is horrifying because I'm worried I'll pick the wrong color. Hanging anything on the walls is a nightmare. What if I hang up the wrong picture? What if its in the wrong spot? I'll have holes in the wall and life will be over! Yes. I'm one of those people. I can't start anything without major anxiety.

This is one of those things. What if I pick the wrong Core Kit? What if it turns out ugly and they don't like it when they're older? What if I royally mess this up?

I knew this would be a problem, and I know its still going to be a problem. So I decided to do a bit of research on this topic before I put any money down and invest in this project. I looked around at other people's layouts, and read other people's experiences with it. Everyone said how fantastically easy it was. I did get overwhelmed with all these gorgeous and elaborate layouts, but then I got to this person's blog post about solutions to common problems starting out with Project Life. The first bullet point was how complicated and overwhelming it can get. The solution? Be a beginner.

That's what I'm going to do. I'm not going to try and be all fancy and kid myself into thinking I can do these elaborate layouts. I'm going to use my Core Kit, basic pocket pages, and that's it. If I want to make it all done up, I can go back and add embellishments later. I want to be able to have something tangible to go back to with the memories, but I also want to be there to actually make those memories with my family. Getting too involved would be too easy for me. If I just "KISS" {keep it simple, stupid}, life won't go by me and I'll get to experience my daughters growing up. Because if its anything like the past two years - it will be gone in the blink of an eye.

Luckily for me, as I'm doing all this research and pinning everything I can find to Pinterest for future reference, Becky Higgins announced that Joann's will now be carrying her product line along with an exclusive Core Kit. I had been having trouble picking out the kit I wanted to use. Nothing really called out to me, and I didn't want to make it a Baby Book since the new arrival will have her own. That's when I saw the preview for the Joann's exclusive Kiwi Edition. The colors were perfect and the card designs were essentially what I needed for my book. I just knew it was what I was going to use.

Isn't is so pretty? My picture doesn't even do it justice! It looks so great in person! Normally these Core Kits are around $30 each, but I used a coupon {of course} for 40% off and used a gift card I got for Christmas from my in-laws.

I've also scooped up a small pack of the Design D pocket pages and a little pack of themed cards. I may actually go back and get another one of those cause they're cute and go well with the Kiwi Kit. Plus, with the store coupon, they're less than $4 a pack.

I did order a binder from Amazon, but I was extremely disappointed with how it arrived. I think they sent me a returned binder. You might be able to see in the pictures, its quite wrinkled. The faux leather is supposed to lay flat. It also wasn't shrink wrapped. That really upset me because I love, love, LOVE the color. I think I saw it on Joann's website, so maybe once the stores have everything out, they'll sell it in store. I'm not too worried about the actual album, because I can always get one later. Getting the pocket pages and the cards are a little more important.

Does anyone have any advice for this Project Life newbie? Any great inspiration you've found? Do you have a Project Life book you're working on? I'd love to see it! Share below in the comments!

    1. I'm excited to start this as well. I've already put together a few pages, but can't really do too much since its going to be about my daughters and the second one hasn't made an appearance yet. :) I've seen a lot of people start working on their current year, only to go back and do the previous years. That might be something fun to do with your son. I've never really scrapped before, so this is going to be a whole new fun project to get into! Thanks for stopping by and commenting! I'd love to see your book if you start!

    1. It does seem a bit daunting, but from what I've gathered its much less time consuming and overwhelming than actual scrapbooking. It seems like its something that I might actually be able to handle. You have a great week too! Thanks for coming by and commenting!
